Three schools near the Bibiyana gas field area are now set to recruit three additional teachers each to improve the standard of education after receiving a donation from Chevron Bangladesh. On July 2, 2007, the Chevron Bangladesh President Steve Wilson handed over three cheques each amounting to BDT180000 to three headmasters of three schools, Pradip Ranjan Das of Nadampur High School, Shaesta Mian Jaigirdar of Dhigalbak High School and Billal Hossain Chowdhury of Gholduba MC High School and Vocational. The funds will go towards payment of one year’s retainer for the teachers recruited to improve the standard of math and English teaching.



During the cheque handover ceremony, the presidents of each three schools were present among others. Also present in the program were, Chevron Bangladesh’s Director of External Affairs Naser Ahmed and acting chairman of Inatganj union of Habiganj district Aftab Ali.



During the program, Chevron Bangladesh’s President related to the representatives of the Bibiyana community that the company’s future social development efforts will prioritize education. He said, “Education is the area I am most interested in, as it ensures sustainable development.”



The grants to three schools were provided as part of Chevron Bangladesh’s Education Support Program. Under the program each school will also receive educational materials worth of BDT 20000 in the current year.



Earlier, Chevron Bangladesh had also sponsored the construction of a school building and provided school furniture to a school next to the Bibiyana project.
